New Vehicle Requirements
The second step in determining whether your potential car, crossover or truck purchase is eligible for a CARS voucher, it must meet specific requirements for fuel economy improvement over your trade-in vehicle. In other words, the value of your voucher, if any, is determined by the amount of fuel economy improvement between the two vehicles. The fuel economy for both trade-in and new purchase vehicle fuel economy is determined by the combined, new EPA miles per gallon estimates. This information can be found at fueleconomy.gov. Finally, new vehicle purchases must be made between the program’s July inception and November 1, 2009. Retroactive purchases made before program inception are ineligible.
