E85 FlexFuel - What is it and why do I care?

pump_sm.jpg (1557 bytes)E85 is an alternative fuel composed of 85% ethanol and 15% gasoline.  Ethanol is made from U.S. grown bio-material like corn or grain products and is a cleaner-burning, renewable fuel source. FlexFuel vehicles like the Chevy Tahoe help to protect our environment by reducing greenhouse gas emissions and CO2 emissions while, at the same time, reducing our dependence on foreign oil.  For the consumer, ethanol fuel provides more horsepower, more torque and better engine performance than standard gasoline.    It also provides a higher octane rating than premium gasoline. Illinois has more stations that provide E85 fuel than any other state except Minnesota.

5.  Beware the Deadly Sins Of Winter

GM Goodwrench Offers Spring Car Care Relief for Your Vehicle

Winter can be tough on lots of things, including cars and trucks. Cold temperatures, snow and ice, road salt and pothole-causing freeze-thaw cycles put car batteries, tires, brakes and suspensions to the test. Spring is the time to rid vehicles of winter’s sins in time for summer travel.

Since 1970, Americans have more than doubled their vehicle miles traveled, according to federal statistics. In summer, many of those miles are logged on driving vacations far from home, the last place motorists want to risk a breakdown.

“Regular vehicle maintenance and inspections can help improve a vehicle’s fuel efficiency, achieve peak performance and even help avoid major repairs down the road,” said Peter Lord, executive director, GM Service Operations.

Winter’s “major deadly sins” can affect just about all vehicle systems, but some are especially vulnerable. Vehicle owners can follow these tips to ensure their vehicles are ready to roll:

7.  Ask The Expert:    Should I wax my new Chevrolet?

P1010056_sm.jpg (4139 bytes)Of course a shiny new car needs no wax to look shiny. However according to our Detailing Manager Jim Schalk, it is best to wax your vehicle twice a year; just before winter to protect from the harsh elements and road salt, and just before summer to protect from the baking heat that is tough on a finish.  Follow this advice to keep your car looking shiny and new for many years.
